MineRealm died.

What happened? We used to have over 100 players on at once, new ones joining (and often being banned) every second. Now we have an average of about 10. We used to have threads getting pushed out of the first page within days, even hours by people's forum discussions. Now we get around 2 posts per day.
So: what in the name of Intelli's most delicious chocolate chip cookies happened, and how can we fix it?

If I had to point at any one thing, it was the mob cap and the tone of the response to the community concerns that followed.

Pretty standard for this time of year:

Most other community servers are experiencing the same thing. 1.8 Bukkit & Microsoft drama hasn't helped.
But yea, numbers are always low this time of year. We also haven't been doing any advertising, so the current numbers aren't surprising.

Hmm. Hopefully I'm just panicking like usual, but this is the smallest I've seen MR, so I am quite worried. I mean, I know why we aren't getting any new players, but where have all the regulars gone?

I know a fair amount of players that have quit for different reasons at different times. Most recently the mob cap.

Well, waiting for 1.8 features has something to do with it. and it looks like the wait goes on for a fair bit of the other 1.8 features. As of now theres still no rabbits, guardians, updated mob AI like for pigmen and slimes, also everything to do with villagers is 1.7 still.
I'm pretty happy that we are able to play with the new craftable things in 1.8 but some of the project I had in mind have to do with getting those mob enhancements so for right now we'll see some more people logging on to derp around with slime blocks and such.
But it will probably be relatively quiet until the MR community, and the whole MC community learns just what microsoft has in mind for minecraft if anything. As of right now development of minecraft seems to be like it always has been, slow and steady. Lets just hope theres an API in the works this time.
(On a side note I'd be very interested to hear how we were able to update)
