The "other server" isn't around anymore so there really isn't a point in asking.

Back in the good ol' days, MineRealm was populous and thriving. Then, one day, Planephanatic got banned. After his banning, he went on to found a server (that we aren't allowed to name, hence "The Other Server") that was initially for banned MineRealm players. It used a plot/economy plugin that was very similar to MineRealm's own. It spread swiftly through the community of banned users, and eventually ended up reaching MineRealm itself, through both word of mouth and direct advertisements from Plane and his crew. Players started leaving MineRealm to go play on The Other Server with their banned friends, and MineRealm started falling apart.

Intelli accused Plane of copying his plugin and stealing his intellectual property; I personally cannot verify or refute his claims, not knowing much about the system myself, but we can assume that Intelli's accusation was, to some extent, justified. Many debates were had, flames were tossed around, and posts were deleted. Eventually, as a last-ditch attempt to prevent MineRealm from decaying into nothingness, Intelli set up a system to automatically ban users who played on The Other Server, leading to the Second Great Purge of MineRealm. He was gracious enough to unban those who had played on the server before becoming aware of the rule, but many players refused to repent, and subsequently remained banned, or even, in a few cases, permabanned. These included some of the Greats of the time, such as Texas "The Law" Hitman, as well as many others.

Shortly after the Great Purge, Plane shut down the server, and users who had played on it started slowly trickling back. MineRealm had still decreased greatly, however, which was most likely part of Intelli's motivation for creating Operation OP, an advertising campaign that brought us players by the thousands. More recently, an influx of players who had gone on the other server made appeals that were, for the most part, accepted; some of them left MineRealm again after seeing how much it changed after so many of its influential members had been banned. Altogether, it's hard to pin the blame on one person (well, maybe Plane to some extent), but it was a huge fiasco that had a very negative effect on MineRealm. After Op OP, things started changing for the better, but that's another story.

It was a huge part of MineRealm's history, one of the biggest events that has ever occurred on the server, and, for good or ill, it helped shape MineRealm into what it is today. I'd say it's worth knowing about.

Thanks for the answer, I've been browsing through topics and I've been stuck on what this was. Minerealm so far has the best and one of a kind plugin, I'm glad to have found it.

Don't forget about the countless number of drop parties that occurred. I also remember the forums going down because of a "dictation in process".

The drop parties...yup.

What was this "dictation in process", though? I don't remember anything about this.

I think, at one point, the MineRealm forums were used to advertise "the other server". I assume the the forums were shut down to prevent the advertisements being seen by players. During this shutdown, any attempt to view a page would result in a message along the lines of "Dictatorship in progress" showing in the middle of the page.

It's amazing how much speculation and hearsay gets believed online. First of all the other server was using a system that is used by many other servers out there and the coding is very easy to find if you know what you are doing. Second they were not stealing players away from Minerealm, they were more than happy to play on both servers but Intelli saw it as a direct attack on him rather than just a way for all the banned people to still stick together and have fun. You spend a year on a server, you make friends. Wouldn't you want to go hang out with your friends if 90% of them got banned for dumb reasons? Also one of the reasons why Intelli got pissed I'm sure was because a few lone members of the other server without knowledge of planet and the other mods decided to go on Minerealm and tell a few people about the new server. Mainly just a few friends and largely if not completely in private chat. It really wasn't justified and the cause of Minerealm having a hard time staying afloat wasn't because of the members leaving for the other server, we had tough times because Intelli was acting crazy banning everyone. Who would want to stay on a server like that? Not to mention when he put the ban regulation on the other server he banned a huge group of very active members on here. A lot of which refused to ever come back due to Intelli brushing them aside so easily. I might add many of those people that were banned were people who had donated on a regular basis to Minerealm to support it. Minerealm is a great server with a pretty large community. I enjoy my time on here especially now that everything has blown over. But the that is exactly why the community started growing again. It had enough time for people to forget and forgive, not to mention a whole new group of newbies to start fresh with. Making planet a scapegoat for every problem that happened to Minerealm is unfair, he was just giving a group of friends a place to go to when they got wrongfully banned from here.

Anyways it's all in the past and it would be nice if people didn't bother with it anymore.
