Opinion Poll - Public Realms

Hello, forum user.

This topic is dedicated to gathering opinions regarding public realms in MineRealm.

Listed below are a number of statements regarding public realms. If you agree with the statement, please vote for the corresponding option in the poll.

Please vote for all statements that you agree with.

---

Option 1
I believe people terraform public realms to the point where the terrain is irrelevant, as people who move onto this land will destroy anything that made the area unique.

Option 2
I believe that the terrain in public realms has a strong impact on gameplay.

Option 3
I believe that structures in public realms should be preserved, and are a strong part of the servers identity and heritage.

Option 4
I believe that public realms should occasionally be wiped, especially for large updates such as Minecraft 1.7

Option 5
I believe that access to new terrain in updates should be made available, without wiping public realms.

Option 6
I believe that the current terrain in public realms on MineRealm is stale and outdated.

Option 7
I believe that wiping public realms goes against the legit nature of the server, in which it was founded.

Option 8
I believe that the terrain in public realms is fine as-is, and no changes should be made to it, even when new gameplay updates are released.

I think that the terrain does contribute a lot to the server. When newbs look for a server they look for one with nice clean updated land, I know this from personal experience however structures like the cathedral ect need to be kept. If we do a public land wipe there should be a thread made soley to give advice on how to own realms during the wipe so it doesn't look to bad.

I would definitely like a public realm wipe - however - now that so much of the map is private, is there any way to do it without half the map being jagged cliffs around the private realms that aren't wiped? That would likely make the map look worse than it does right now - not to mention the biome changes and people's homes being put in the middle of oceans, swamps, deserts, etc.

This is my main concern as well, I live in the ocean, and I'd like to stay there. I also still have realms like that from the last public wipe that is just not worth the time to terraform down anymore, I'd really hate to pack up and move again because my realms become a water filled hole/tower with a very out of place island and tunnel system.
And while I don't mind moving elsewhere too much, giant out of place pillars with builds on top ruin the terrain more than the current public land does. It'd be better to continue wiping the wilderness and leaving public land be, in my opinion.

I personally like the idea of having my base be "relocated" to a potentially very different area it would be like having everything I've worked for transferred to a brand new biome. Even if I end up in the ocean I'd like just the change up. And if I get tired of ocean I'll build over it. This is something I see that will add extra challenge and adventure to my homogeneous experience on MR so far.

For people concerned about how the map will look if a public wipe goes through. I understand your concern, I dont like the looks of the current map where snow biome chunks are jutting out of the ocean randomly, and I would be all for any option to make it so that the terrain generates smoothly around the privately owned terrain. However if this isnt possible we should still have the wipe anyway. The map couldnt really be any worse off. We've already had these wipes in the past and it shows. It may look jagged and screwed up, but the pros outweigh the cons here. I know terrain was generated in the wild in order to provide a "patch" for our current situation but the problem is no one really goes there for reasons that remain obvious. Sure they may be a few people who spend lots of time in the wild cause it presents a challenge. The wild is an area that remains largely virgin, I swooped through the wild a few months back looking for horses and I didnt see a single sign of people. Anyone who lives in the wild is busy cowering underground hoping no one happens upon them cause its a free for all. Theres plenty of people on this server including myself who'd like to be able to enjoy the new land without risking the loss of everything we spent weeks/months building up. Call me selfish but Intelli is giving us an option here and I'm expressing the opinions of more than a few people here when I say I think we should have new areas (realms) that people can do with what they please with the assurance that what they work on will be protected just like it is in the original MR experience. That is after all why I settled in this community. Apart from that I'm sure the new people joining our server I'm sure would be glad to see a renewal of trees around the map, and with the random teleporter they'll be able to set off on their own with abundant resources, and grizzled vets like us will get a change of pace after all this time. Its been a long time coming but people, this needs to happen, if just one more time.

Edit: Option 2 mystifies me a bit. What type of gameplay are we talking about? and is it in relation to the generation of new public land or current public land?

If there were to be a public land wipe, could I suggest creating a new "/realm wipeable" command or similar to allow private realms to be wiped also, if the owner so wished?

I no longer own any realms, but when I did there were a number of fringe realms that I purchased only to secure the boundaries of my village and prevent others from building me in. I would have loved these realms to be wiped - they were mined out and horribly disfigured on the surface, and terraforming them back to natural state would have been a huge amount of work.

That would have to be a restricted command. One use per realm maybe? I can see that being abused for ores etc.

I agree that heritage builds should be preserved if we do have a wipe , but a wipe is needed for the public lands.

The realm wipe thing would help on some of the land Im attempting to terraform back to a semi natural state on the surface, but I also agree that it probably could be abused and should only be done once or twice.

I'm far too conservative for public realm wipe, I'd much rather like to see the wilderness wiped.
I fear all the realm borders becoming cut-off mountain, or surrounding seas.

Not /realm wipe ... /realm wipeable. It wouldn't trigger an instantaneous wipe ... it would just mark the realm as one that is to be regenerated when Intelli implements the next public realm wipe.
