Of horses and possible solutions

So, after reading some Mojang developer forum stuff, it's become apparent that horses and other new mobs are most likely only going to spawn in newly generated 1.6 spawn chunks...
I did notice last night that the new "baby mobs" are spawning, so I have some hopes other new mobs will spawn.
Has anyone actually seen a horse or mule yet?
Has anyone heard any kind of official announcement -- or better -- is there any plans under way to remedy the lack of new mob types....
Yes, I really really really like the horses........

I am not sure if the player was trolling or telling the truth... The player Stinkty was selling horses yesterday in public chat if I am not mistaken. Ask him. I think he is the only player on minerealm with some so far ...(I bet it is a troll though)

So - any suggestions anyone?
I was thinking - maybe Intelli could find some of the dozens of public "plains" realms and, perhaps, individually wipe them..... I don't understand the seeding or programming for that, so not sure how it all works.
Or --- maybe some new 'edge' zones - like adding 2000 to the southern, western, or eastern borders, freshly spawned etc...

I say we wipe the Wilderness and be done with it. Easy, convenient, simple, and Intelli's self-proclaimed default solution for this type of issue.

I say trolling, if he/she had horses there would be pictures on the forum by now or at the very least some of the big players here would have bought some and posted proof

I saw one....but it despawned before I could even take a screenshot
I had the stuff to tame it but it disappeared just like my one sheep.

Maybe they're being classified as vehicles and being despawned.
