If you update, you won't be able to play on MineRealm until it gets updated (It may take some time for it to update)

So it's totally up to you, if you wanna update to 1.6 you may, but remember you won't be able to play on MineRealm until it updates.

Or you could update then use the shaddow craft jar when you want to play on minerealm.

You can use older launch versions in the new launcher.

You can download the new launcher and downgrade to 1.5.2 using the new profile button and selecting the version and click the 1.5.2 version it will load 1.5.2 and you can get on MineRealm cause I am on MineRealm with the new launcher.

See the Local Version Editor?

It's NYI, but when done the idea is that you can easily insert and remove modifications by editing the "local versions."
Thinking about it, that'll probably come with the modding API.

For now, though, I do believe you can simply reinject the mods and relaunch, although correct me if I'm wrong.

Step-by-step for 1.5.2 in the new launcher:

Click {New Profile} on the right, in the profile selection.

Name it something like "Minecraft 1.5"
Change "Use Latest Version" to "release 1.5.2"
Click {Save Profile}
In the main window, change the profile to the new one you just made.
Re-login in the Log In section in the bottom right.
Click {Play}

- Be ready to reinject any mods you had installed, and back up your minecraft.jar.
