Portal-Based Overworld Gold Farm

Would something like this be allowed in MineRealm?

Summary:
Large array of portals is built in the overworld.
Pigmen occasionally spawn from portals and fall down through the holes in the portal array.
Pigmen are killed by a standard "mob grinder" to produce gold nugget drops.
Video producer says to produce grinder before lighting portals, due to lag from too many pigmen spawning.
Video producer says some computers "can't handle" the large number of portals involved.

In asking whether it's allowed on MR, I was thinking mainly about the last two points. There shouldn't be any lag from producing too many pigmen without killing them efficiently (Intelli's mob limiter code takes care of that), but what about the last point? Do portals themselves produce a large amount of strain on the server?

One is already running in MineRealm with no measurable affect on server performance, at least as far as is visible from the /serverhealth command. Test loading and unloading of the chunk during periods of high server usage (7-8 TPS) made no difference to the TPS value.

Have fun mining the obby :D

They will cause player lag the server will take no effect unless you build like 100 of them on the server.

But lets say if someone in the nether goes back through a nether portal it might take them to one of the portals in the farm right? That wouldn't be good. :!:

1. You could place a warning.
2. Traps are allowed in the Nether.

Furthermore, you wouldn't be totally trapped if you ended up in one of those portals. There are small ledges (consisting of raised trapdoors) that would allow you to walk out a short distance without falling. You should be able to either walk out of the portal and right back in, or jump across the holes in the array to enter another portal. You could even jump down without dying -- after the mobs fall from the portals, they land in water and don't die until after going up a "water elevator" and dropping onto a solid surface.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
