Mob Rules Clarification

Sorry to make a whole new thread about this, but if I made sure all the caves etc. in a realm couldn't have any mobs, I could theoretically have 100 cows in a 6x6 area?

My understanding (may be wrong) is if you press F3, the third row with the letter "E: x/y"
The x represents the amount of mobs in your field of view.
The y represents the amount of mobs in an area.
The y value cannot surpass 100. (This is an assumption I think?)
That's how I see it at least. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe the current implementation is on a per realm basis, so 100 mobs per realm. I believe there were plans to change it back to the old system though (max 4 mobs within 5 blocks of each other?).

Yeah, there are, but they have not been implemented yet, and we don't know when/even if they are actually going to be implemented. The reason was to bring server tps back up, and for now that has happened because farm growth has been nerfed.

My crops are growing faster than ever I dont know exactly what you guys are talking about. Its been my understanding that Intelli changed something else to bring up the TPS, but it must have worked because the TPS hasnt gone under 20 since the 1.5 update.

Someone mentioned it had to to with dropped items being loaded/updated less. You have to be very close to items for them to move in water for example (sucks for large farms that use water).
