The end of all xraying may be upon us!

So,
Spigot a variation of Craftbukkit that Minerealm uses has incorporated the plugin
orebfuscator into the server.
Every underground ore (and more) not exposed to air is hidden until it is exposed to air, effectively eliminating wireframe, freecam, and xray to find ores.
The Spigot team claims that because they have natively implemented it, there will be no performance hit on the server.
In their next release, either 1.4.7 or 1.5 the end of xraying will finally be here.
For an example of what it will do, see engine 1 on the Orebfuscator link.

Better work with chests.
I'm excited for the plans Mojang has with changing the basic minecraft code. We're expecting changes to the render engine which should make lag reducing mods such as optifine unnecessary. Word is, they're also working on a mod API and a user friendly vanilla mod loader. There should be no more complicated and unreliable modification of minecraft.jar. In fact, said mod API may not need modification of the jar. Mods will be jars themselves that "plug in" to minecraft.jar just like server plugins.
Maybe the changes to vanilla minecraft will make hacking and griefing much more difficult, allowing servers to detect which clients have disallowed mods installed.

Are you familiar with Spout?
It's kinda like Wire for Garry's Mod.
If something like that worked with the modding API it would be great.
Could you imagine Shaddowcraft with a HUD for realms, friends, buddies, guild mates, staff online, etc..
But really, they've neglected SMP so much I'm not expecting much.

What version of minecraft are you playing on, because 1.4.7 is already out? I like engine 2.

It's only their in 1.4.7 alpha release.
I don't know if Intelli would enable it before it reaches a release state.

Honestly, I would be shocked if that was true. I could see the performance hit being negligible for small servers, but I can't see any way for it to not show up on larger servers, or servers that are already operating near their limits.

Well darn it.
Gotta find another way to illegitimately gather diamonds now.

Actually, any server side detection of client mods is doomed to fail. Any sufficiently motivated/unethical mod maker will include the ability to respond to an "authenticity" check from the server with "of course I'm running vanilla!". It's one of the downsides of running Java with source code that just about anyone can look at.

This will be until people complain about the increased server usage caused by the plugin, and FPS decreases to players, especially when they are in areas surrounded by ores/chests etc.
