Whithers

So I've been away for a bit and just now getting caught up on the latest updates and such to Minecraft. The beacons look fun enough but the whither heads seem to be a bit of a rare drop. After about two hours of camping a certain area I killed a total of three whither skeletons and of course no drop. It's times like these that I really wish there were better spawn rates for servers of this size. I know it's a default Minecraft thing though.

Anyways here's my questions. Has anyone set up a successful and efficient farm for these heads? Something with decent spawn rates or quantities of skeletons? Is anyone selling just the heads?

I'm interested in either buying three heads or possibly paying to use a good farm. I know even though they're in the Nether and public it still takes time to set up so I don't have a problem forking over a few credits to the creator if it will save me time. Let me know. Thanks.

Sadly you have to keep doing what your doing. There a quite a few locations within the nether where I've seen Wither Skeletons spawn, however, it really is just a waiting game. The amount you have to kill to obtain a skull can sometimes be as low as 1/25. I've killed around 29 and not yet obtained a skull.

All I would advise is to continue grinding in the normal way. Go to an area where they spawn, go back and unload the chunks, then go back a little while later. Also, don't forget to use a looting 3 sword, this increases the chance of the drop, but not by much. It's just grind grind grind I'm affraid.

Rare drops have a 2.5% chance of occurring when a monster dies.

Using a weapon with the Looting enchantment increases the chance by 0.5% per level (up to 4% with Looting III).

I was very lucky and killed my first 5 wither skeletons today and the 5th one gave me a head! Once I find out the average price for one I will be selling it.
