Redstone Question For Staff

I'm working on a project that will require my first time use of redstone.
I'm wondering what the current rules/regs are regarding redstone.
I'm building a model in creative before building it on the server. Currently I have an infinite loop (I've figured out how to make it so you start it by pressing a button, working on using a pressure plate that you can't escape to turn it off) that includes ~40 repeaters and some wiring. Would like to know if this will be allowed on the server.

I dont know how well itll work with alot of repeaters going. I know I was having trouble with just a few going off but that was before the great lag fix which also brought up the fear of using redstone too now. lol

If you send me the map file along with a description of what it's supposed to do, I'll take a look at it and try to make it as server-friendly as possible. Generally, anything that involves an infinite loop of redstone changing states (on/off) is bad, but it can usually be made to only loop in such a manner while the device is actually in use.

I've figured out how to leave it off, with a button to press to turn it on, when someone wants to check it out.
I've also made it so that after turning it on, the only exit causes you to step on a pressure plate that can turn it off. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to turn if off without breaking it.
I tried using a piston to push up a key block in the circuit. I used gravel so when the piston went down the gravel would fall, but the dust doesn't stay on the gravel when the block is moved.
Any ideas on how to interrupt the circuit w/o breaking it? Are there any blocks the redstone will stay on when moved? I can use a sticky piston if need be.

Keep in mind that people are always able to teleport out, and infinitely looping devices may be subject to arbitrary disassembling by the staff.

Yes, redstone torches and repeaters are able to send charges through solid blocks. You can use this to make a terminating loop by having a sticky piston move the block into and out of position as needed.

In 99.9% of cases redstone circuits should not be continuous. Maybe it can be justified but as of right now its a "mystery machine." I understand redstone is fun to play with. But alas all redstone causes lag to the server, especially continuous circuits and flashers.
I suggest to all player to steer away from continuous circuits, flashers, and general purposeless redstone circuits.

Just thought of a simpler way to achieve the same effect as the previous picture. Did away with the piston and repeater and replaced them with a simple logic gate.

I highly suggest watching some tutorials on youtube. Also as far as I'm aware, detector rails are the only type of redstone device that isn't a block that can be moved with a piston.

I have a long way to go before I'll be ready to build it on the server, but if I end up feeling like potentially wasting the resources, I'm fine with that risk. I just don't want to get banned over it, so thought I'd better check first

Mystery Machine...maybe I'll name it that

I hear you completely, jdankk, and I appreciate your response. If and when I get to that point in the build, I'll see what the staff thinks and be willing to take the resource hit if it's deemed not justified. Just good to see that it seems like the worse case scenario would be having the mechanism removed. Thank you again. Whether I end up building it on MineRealm or not it was a wicked fun exercise
