I originally wanted to reply to a question regarding it, but realized it would get buried and lost amongst other threads, so why not have a central location for this? And why not have a central thread for everything how to? Here it is. Feel free to post how to do anything whether it be minecraft related or not.

Taking screenshots
In minecraft
Screenshots within minecraft are created by pressing F2 in a game in minecraft. Some computers require you press a key with F2 like fn, the windows key, or control.

Outside minecraft
Screenshots can be taken outside of minecraft in a variety of ways. Some computers have keyboard shortcuts to snap the entire screen (and are usually saved to the desktop). Macs have a built in app called Grab which allows you to capture the screen, a selection, or a window. Windows and Linux might have something similar. Google is your friend.

Finding screenshots
Minecraft screenshots are saved in your screenshots folder in your minecraft directory. To find your minecraft directory, open the minecraft launcher, click the "Edit Profile" button, and then the "Open Game Dir" button in the subsequent window. You'll see a bunch of files and folders. The one called "screenshots" has your screenshots. For future reference, this is also where you can find the different versions of minecraft you've downloaded, your chat logs, your world saves, and where you can install resource packs.

Posting screenshots here
Method 1
When you post on these forums and you scroll down, you can add a bunch of neat stuff. One of these things is file attachments. Click "Choose File" and it'll allow you to navigate to the file you want to upload. Since some computers won't allow you to navigate through the entire file hierarchy, copy the screenshot to a folder you can see (for example, the desktop) and you should be able to find it and select it. Add a file comment if you wish, then click "Add the file". The page will refresh. You will see "Attachments:" directly below the message body. Clicking "Place inline" will allow you to move the attachment to wherever you want within your post. By default, the attachment is at the bottom of your post. Scroll down further and you'll see your file listed again where you are given the option to delete it. Using this method, you can only attach 3 files per post. See method 2 to upload more.

Method 2
There are a great deal of image hosting sites on the net. Here's a list. Pick a place, make an account, and upload your image following the instructions on the image hosting site. Once it's on the site, you can click it and it'll provide you with a list of links like this:
Image
You need to copy the BBCode (message boards & forums) one and paste it in the message body. If there is no BBCode option, simply find the URL for your image, put it here, and put the Image tags around it. Click "Preview" and viola!

Alternatively, to find your screenshots folder on you Mac, open finder, then hit shift + cmd + G. Then paste ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/screenshots into the new window and hit go :)

Alternatively, the program hyperdesktop allows you to select an area to screenshot or screenshot the entire screen. The program then automatically uploads the screenshot to imgur or wherever you want it to and automatically puts the link to the image to in your clipboard.
