It seems that you were banned for "griefing the creative server."
I'll explain what you did in this situation.
Griefer griefs a house. BAD.
You see a griefed house, and call it yours and make it less of an eyesore. WRONG MOVE.
Player come on and sees his house is TOTALLY different. He cries mod, and the mod rolls back you and your friend and the griefer. Three people were banned, you and your friend were caught up in the rollback with the actual griefer.
You are convicted of griefing, whether it be for the better or worse, because it is sstill not your house.

So where do we draw the line here? Do we have to find absolutely undeveloped land to build something on? We can't make something better that we find that looks obviously abandoned? On creative I dug down in what I thought was my hole only to find someone elses old mining hole - this is on public realm. Is that griefing? I made the hole 20 times bigger.

Yes, it is wrong and you will get banned for it. Find pristine untouched wilderness to build in or get permission from whoever built there first or risk a ban if the land owner decides to object.

Also, I don't see why you made an appeal for you AND your friend. If they want to be unbanned, then THEY can make an appeal.
