Yesterday I was banned, probably because I stole a stack of Netherrack and a heavily damaged stone sword from a chest in a disbanded plot.

I apologize for that. I did not steal anything valuable from those chests, I just wanted to use the blocks to climb on top of the plot.

I hope that you will give me a second chance. I was never banned before, and I'm a veteran (joined 2011) and I donated when I was more active on the server.

Yesterday was my first visit after a long time, and hopefully not the last one

Even if a plot is disbanded that gives no right to ANY player to just walk in and take items. It still counts as looting/stealing.

You are right, it is not ok to take stuff from other players, even if their realms disbanded.

I thought about it. My little Island realm with all my important stuff was also untouched, although it was disbanded for a long time. I will respect the rule from now on...

Before I make my decision I am rather curious. Have you taken from other places as well?

If you have forgotten about these items all from the same area I would assume there have been other places as well.

No, that's it. I just re-purchased my old realm far away from the location, an I played together with my friend GymgisKhan, but I did not steal anything else.
