Prosecution: Ramien123(Representing Mastertgm)/Unclear Rules
Defendant: Minerealm
The Brief:
Event: Intelli Unbanned Lightbulbs, Causing Confusion of Rules
Issue: Is pure stealing a banworthy crime?
--------------------------------
Case: Intelli unbanned Lightbulbs, eventually revealing that Lightbulbs had not broken the 2 rules of the server. While it is true that Lightbulbs has admitted to 20 or more thefts (exact number hard to determine as the document is classified to non-moderators), and that Intelli had been less then transparent in the reasons behind the unbanning (which is understandable, he does not owe us any explanations), the fact remains that if Lightbulbs broke no rules an innocent man/woman has been wrongfully banned.
This player did not grief, did not hack, and therefore did not break any rules. Yet he was banned. Why? Intelli has said that the only rules are really "Don't Grief (Breaking Peoples Buildings), and Don't Hack". While some unwritten rules are undoubtedly in place, i.e. spamming swears and being rude to mods or admins, these two Intelli blessed rules are the law of the land.
Schistor was banned a while back for stealing from KatonX's home. Jtcannon performed the ban and after the appeal process said that Schistor would be unbanned if he "RETURNED THE ITEMS HE STOLE if he hadn't already." and that "... remember that there will be no chance for appeal next time" (emphasis mine).
Another upstanding member of our community, Aayrl, leader of one of the most beautiful realms on the server, was banned for the alleged theft of Terranobyl property. Aayrl was unbanned, along with G-Xop, after revealing that they had not taken the items but were returning them.
NOWHERE in their bans were they accused of griefing, but of STEALINGG. Nowhere in their bans were they accused of hacking, just STEALING.
If you manage to take something from a chest WITHOUT breaking anything you have broken no rules. Ergo, Theft is now legal in Minerealm.
Regardless of the harassment that Lightbulbs has or has not inflicted on members of the community, the fact remains that if what he did was legal Schistor should be unbanned, if not unbanned already. If the court finds the actions to be ILLEGAL, well, that's not up to me.
Thank you for your time.
