I don't know, ramien, I kind of like it.

“Hey Ebony!” shouted a voice. I looked up. It was…. Draco Malfoy!

“What’s up Draco?” I asked.

“Nothing.” he said shyly.

In this excerpt, Draco is beckoning Ebony from afar. Clearly, the relationship between these two is casual enough that a shout is not unheard of and can be responded to in a calm manner.

Draco's shyness in these lines symbolizes his overwhelming fear of speaking face to face with a human being named Ebony, as in most other situations it would refer to a specific type of darkly shaded wood. What is unique in these lines is that Draco's confidence when shouting out for Ebony to speak with him is coupled almost immediately afterward by a direct show of nervousness, showing that he is much more confident when speaking with a loud voice, which would explain his often use of such a voice on the big screen. The author purposely tied these two aspects together to remind the reader that this is still the same Draco we've seen and read about in the real books and movies.

Ebony's astonishment in seeing Draco is rather peculiar, as most intellectual human beings are capable of depicting a person beckoning them simply by the sound and tone of their voice. She clearly does not possess this ability, possibly foreshadowing towards her self-realization that she requires visual recognition in order to comprehend a subject. This, as we all know, later becomes her tragic flaw in Chapter 7, verses 8-14 where she blindfolds herself in efforts to fit in with the "Seeing Is[nt] Believing" cult that has taken ground at her place of education and academic attunement. She almost immediately, however, loses her ability to perceive the events taking place around her, which leads to her embarrassment and then her further embarrassment when her peers review the entire event's unfolding via magical-video-newspaper-technology.

The middle phrase from the passage we see above, "What's up, Draco?" is an interesting and unbelievably crucial piece to this story. As we remember back in Chapter 3, verses 3-17, Ebony had originally been on awkward and often unfriendly terms with Draco. The fact that she is so readily able to adopt a casual speaking terms with Draco represents her free spirit and ability to move on past difficulties of her past. This underlying theme does not become critical until the unveiling of the final rising action presented to us in Chapter 17, verses 8-36. Ebony clearly has difficulties dealing with the horrors of her past, but then her (or the author, we can't tell which) remember that she is supposed to be able to move past bad things that have happened, and so she almost magically overcomes her fears and succeeds in accomplishing her goal.

The author seems to almost intentionally present underlying themes backed by situational irony to almost every event. The major cruxes of the story revolve around Ebony and Draco's abilities to communicate in ways with each other that doesn't make them sound like robots, which in many excerpts (including this one), is a failed endeavor.

My favorite parts have to be when Dumblydore catches "Enoby" in the forest. Later on they rant about the "BARK LORD" as well. :D
