I'm looking to purchase a new laptop soon, I'm not looking for anything flashy. I was wondering if there are any brands, models, ect, I should avoid/look for?

Ah, I thought you meant avoid. Personally, I've had good experiences with Lenovo and Dell. I just replaced my mother's 5 year old Dell with a new one and she's loving it.

Thanks for the input guys, narrows down my search a bit. Never heard of Lenovo before, though.
