I'm going to use this, because my teacher probably doesn't know what the Geneva Contravention does and doesn't cover. He'll just be like "Whaaaaaaa.... that sounds smart...."

What's the definition of "protected person", and does the definition apply to all circumstances or only in war?
For that matter, what's the official definition of "punish"? If your teacher is actually interested in debating you over the legality of the punishment, I'd imagine that they could argue that it doesn't constitute punishment since it's a decision they make in the course of teaching, rather than a penalty imposed by a court.
