Having lag problems lately? Have wireless internet?

Well the sun's to blame!

This solar flare hit on the 10th of march, 2012.
It hit wireless internet HARD making it slow and crash is some areas of the world.
And NO it isn't the end of the world, this may be the biggest one in 7 years but it's natural for the sun's cycle for this to happen. Every 11 years the sun's flare activity spikes and this is what you get. The one in 2005 was usual but nothing to worry about.
I have cable so I'm not affected :lol: but I was getting annoyed at people saying "I'm lagging, you said this was a lag free server" and "I'm lagging, I've never had lag" THE SUN IS TO BLAME NOT MINEREALM!

I was suspecting this. Thanks for confiming!
I could barely load Minerealm the other day and it is still slow today.

Still trying to determine whether this really could have affected my internet or not, but it seems totally plausible now that I looked into articles about it. Amazing how connected we are to the power of our sun, even a slight fluctuation can effect everything from our man-made mechanics to the base of our molecular structure. We live in awesome times to be able to identify and learn from occurrences like this. Thanks for the info!

I believe it affects non-shielded Ethernet cabling as well. If that is the case then that would explain why my internet has been slightly slower than normal lately.

I have optic fibre internet, it isn't affected because it uses the speed of light!

It's called fiber (or fibre depending on where you live) optic internet. It uses beams of light that reflect of the inside of the cabling to get to it's destination. You are correct though it most likely wouldn't be effected by a solar flare.

Huh. I've noticed that problem, but never made the connection to the solar flares, since I usually have ethernet and only recently made a temporary switch to wireless.

well that explains the northern lights i've been seeing here in Alaska. Wireless wasn't working at all a few days ago..
