So, many people on the server have experienced problems with paintings one way or another.

I understand that paintings are not protected because they are not seen as blocks, so therefore can't be.

However, after placing around a stack of paintings yesterday to line my walls, I turned around and they had all vanished. Whats up with that? Im not sure if this is a bukkit issue, a server issue or what - but in my eyes this shouldnt be happening.

Anyone got any ideas on what might be causing this? And to Intelli, is there any chance of getting this fixed if it's a problem with Minerealm?

Nothings new at all.
I think it worked properly before 1.8. It is not a Bukkit Issue, but a specific Minerealm Bug.

If they're not saved as blocks, are they saved as entities, and subject to the same despawning code as mobs?

If prodigy is right, you should be able to test it by placing some paintings close together, and some apart from eachother. Large ones and small ones. It would be funny if the same thingy that cause animals to despawn made pictures despawn aswell...

I had only one single painting placed in my whole realm - in the "bedroom" of the house. When I logged in the next day, it had vanished as well. I have not tried to place a new painting since, though.

I have this same issue when I plant seeds. In some cases, they disappear completely. Mainly occurred with pumpkin seeds.

That is simply a matter of water and light levels. Not enough of either and the seeds pop out.

Ok, let me explain what I know about the issues with paintings.

Paintings are an entity, so I anything they are treated similarly to mobs. I you plate a stack on your walls, minerealms anti-lag mob slaughter machine probably comes and evaporates them... So, not much we can do.

Additionally, even if you only logged out, entities like animals are saved to the chunk when it's deloaded, I'm not sure if this holds true for paintings, but I would assume so. There are issues with this code which can mobs to appear in different places. If we apply this to paintings, they could appear in mid air, and because no ordinary reason destroyed it, it didn't drop a block.
