I've given up growing trees. Someone always ends up breaking into my hiding place. I logged off and logged back in an hour later and 6 of my planted saps were gone and there was random cobble and dirt blocks around. Go figure.
My new goal is to block out the sun and destroy every source of light which includes torches, anything used to make torches, anything required to smelt logs, gravel, iron, lava, and redstone. Boy, that's mouthful. Better get to it.
