so i h know logging when pvping is against the rules but what about logging when not engaged in combat. i saw another player and quickly logged of. no blows were exchanged and i don't plan on logging back for a little while. so is this considered against the rules?

As long as you gave it about 5+ minutes... instead of logging back on and engaging, i think that is fine.. Since you were logging out to avoid PVP, not to get an advantage.. So you should be fine.. I know MsPacman and myself did this during the giant nether wars.. we would log off and stay off for a while if there were known fighters or shady people around.

I also do this. I'll log and go take a short break, since I don't want my hard-earned mats falling into the hands of some noob with diamond-armor/swords. If I wanted to PvP, I would go find them

this doesn't really apply as breaking a rule I think..

It is ok if you are not logging out to exploit the 5 second invulnerability after logging in.

Edit: you may find yourself buried when you log back in.
