Because of the new Subway system is now linked up from Spawn City to Roanoke I am challenging someone to a Race!

Nether vs. Subway

I will be using the Subway, they will be using the Nether. Both with empty invents.
(This will involve both of us to /kill and people to watch as proof)

Then a person will see of both off from Spawn City and a person will meet us at Roanoke.

This is just for Fun!
I may add a prize is you beat me, but its not really meant to be like that; its just a transport 'war' and its interesting. :D

State if you would like to be the person going via the nether below.
Then I will put you name in the Vote.
(Please note: The sooner you put your name down, the sooner people can vote for you.)

Final Deadline for Entry: 14th of December 2011
Poll Closes: 16th of December 2011

I suppose if the nether person gets killed the test is invalid. Am I right?

The nether will be requested non pvp zone for the period of the race, or at least, i shall ask for it to make it a fair test, we already know the subway is the safer route after all

Without pvp the nether will win hands down. It's not even a challenge.

It would be a more realistic test to allow PVP to be on during the race. The nether is almost certain to be faster if both routes are known to be safe. At 8 m/s, the minecart is almost twice as fast as 4.3 m/s walking speed. But since distance in the X/Z plane in the nether is compressed by a factor of 8 compared to the overworld, a walking speed of 4.3 m/s in the nether covers enough overworld distance to be equivalent to moving 34.4 m/s through the overworld. In other words, the nether should be about (34.4 m/s)/(8 m/s) = 4.3 times faster than the overworld railway. It may end up being somewhat different than this, depending on how long it takes to get from the start point to a nether portal or railway entrance, how straight the roads in the nether and the tracks in the overworld are, the time taken to switch rails at any intermediate stations in the railway, etc. But the nether is faster by such a large margin that these factors will probably not change the outcome.

Concise version: if the nether is made safe for the race, the nether runner will win, hands down. If you want to give the subway rider a chance, or make the race a better simulation of actual travel time, then the nether should still be as dangerous as it always is.
