I'm not so sure that normal, legitimate use of redstone causes major lag, but the lag machines Intelli mentioned certainly would have.

None of the machines we removed were created with the deliberate intention to create lag.

Thanks for opinion and no facts to back that up.
While it will reduce the amount of lag because it will get rid of some lag producing wiring, it is not any where close to a permant fix and I feel like it will not reduce it as much as most people think. Most people will just rebuild what they just lost. If someone then builds/rebuilds something that is a lag machine then they will get banned. So all this is going to catch is the stuff that has been left behind by players no longer on the server.
