is this meant to happen

while playing on single player and at bedrock. first picture shows from one end of hole
second picture shows from other end of hole it is full of torches. render distance is on far on both but a black fog fills the hole.
its extremely annoying, i dont know why its doing it
any ideas?

In the second picture, are you standing near daylight? If you are near/in daylight while at bedrock level, you do not see bedrock fog. You only see bedrock fog when you are in an area of artificial lighting.

Yup, your maximum viewing distance is reduced at a certain depth, no matter how well lit the place is. It's really annoying--limits on what we can see should be based on the amount of light, not some arbitrary limit :\
