This is guide for downgrading your Minecraft client.

If you are on a Windows computer, you can do this to get your previous client back.

Note1: I am on Windows 7, so any other Windows operating system might be slightly different.

1. In the Search Bar on your Start Menu, type Run. Under the Programs section of the list that comes up, there should be a program called "Run". Click the program.

2. A window should pop up. In the Seacrh Bar in the Run window, type %appdata%. Press the Ok button.

3. Once this is done, a Windows Explorer window with the path "USER->AppData->Roaming" should pop up. It will most likely have a few folders in it. Look for the folder labelled ".minecraft".

4. Right click the .minecraft folder and find the "Restore previous versions" option. Click it.

5. When the different versions of the folder load, find the date that you updated to MCx.x.x. Find the first version that is before it. Ex. I updated to 1.0 on the 18th of November. I last modified my .minecraft folder on the 15th.

6. Click the folder. Then click the Restore button.

7. A new window will pop up. It will ask you if you want to restore the previous version and it will tell you that the operation cannot be undone. Click Restore on this new window.

8. Wait until the folder is finished being downgraded. After, it will tell you that the folder was restored successfully.



It should have worked correctly. If it did, you should have your previous client version. If you have anything below your previous version client, you have downgraded too far and will have to repeat the process.

Force update? Press 'No' When it says do you want to update. Press 'Yes' if you want to go back to 1.0

But while I am here....
If you are letting windows do these backups for you, you already have much bigger problems than trying to get back an old version of MC.
