I mean, sure, heaven is nice, but hell needs a use. Wether it's getting punted off gold clouds by Valkiries, or accidentally drinking poison. Fact, getting suffocated by slimes! I just want to poot darts for all it matters!

For 1, it would change the core gameplay, and 2, I dont think it can work in multiplayer servers yet.

If a new dimension were to be added, Intelli would probably code it himself.

I'm against it. The Aether mod has many interesting features, but it has a some important flaws.
1) Any mod that adds content to the game would prevent us from updating the server until the mod is updated as well.
2) Much of the content that is added to the game is unneccessary. "Sky" versions of all of the common materials that have exactly the same functionality is pointless.
3) Much of the gameplay would be ruined by lag. The majority of the mobs would either become far to difficult (the flying slime-like mob) or far to easy (the boss mobs).
I'd much rather wait for the "dream world" Notch has hinted about. Though it would be interesting to see a Apoc as an alternate dimension, if it got fleshed out a but.

That isn't true as if you had seen the mod, many of the materials we know such as wood have alternate uses. Eg wood in normal minecraft does nothing. However, wood from the aether allows you to collect 2 of what ever you are mining/digging from the one block. It is features like these that differentiate the aether mod's blocks from the normal minecraft blocks

4) Breaks game balance due to changing rarity of resources.

But why would that be a bad thing. It might mean that diamonds price go down and another material goes up but that is the way of an economy.

The only problems are, When you die in the Aether, you go to the top on the Nethers Bedrock layers. And Aether is not SMP compadable yet.

In addition to all that was said already, to go on a sever that has a mod which introduces new blocks or items to the game, you must have the mod as well. If this was implemented many people who don't care about the aether or who don't know how to install a mod will be lost from the community. Here's the moral of the story: If it introduces items or blocks it will NOT be used.
