Thoughts on 1.9?

I've been fiddling around with it. Haven't gotten very far, really. However, I've found that fighting mobs is really flipping hard without armour and a shield, even in 1v1 scenarios. Once you get a shield, though, you can take on multiple mobs fairly easily (as long as they are all in front of you). I actually really enjoy the pacing of the new combat system. It feels a little bit like Chivalry: Medieval Warfare except less precise.
What do you guys think about 1.9?

I've been watching vids on it (big hype) and I think it's great. Frost walker allows you to not only walk on water, but also allows for more possibilities with redstone contraptions. Mending is my dream. Repairing items without even needing resources. I love the elytra. I've always wanted a gliding tool ever since I played sky factory. I always thought the End needed more content. And this just done did it. More mobs, respawnable dragon, flowers, end rods, a whole load of great stuff. The two handedness ability. The shield. (shields are a big commodity to me) The tipped arrows are another great thing. Shooting with potion affects. Something's that's been around in plugins for a long time but is just now in Vanilla. I feel like this is more of a catch up to other modpacks than anything. But it's finally been done and that's just great. You can also make a different texture for every different durability level of a tool. Meaning there's millions of combinations you could make. Sliding a boat across water is fast as sonic on sugar. Just so much great content in this. This is even better than the halloween update if you ask me.

Pro tip: If you find your favorite resource pack is no longer compatible.
Open the .mcmeta file contained in the resource pack with notepad and change the pack_format to 2.
Some textures may not be fully compatible but it's a fix till whatever you're using is updated if it hasn't been already.

Thats what resource packs are for! I dont know why they still havent added stairs slabs and walls for all the different types of building blocks. Plus I dont know why they called this the Combat Update, a majority of the changes have nothing to do with the fighting mechanics. No new weapons, and no I don't count arrows tipped with potion effects or the addition of the shield. Overall though I'm happy with most of the changes in this update except for two things that really irk me. They changed the way pigmen kept their aggro when spawning into the overworld that came with 1.8 and removed the crafting recipe for Notch apples. I know Mojang hates farms, but they could have just made them more expensive to make, but now theyre so rare that you might find 1 or 2 with weeks or months of searching underground dungeons.
It's gotta be said though, if something doesnt change with the next update this game doesnt feel like it'll ever return to the glory days of big fundamental changes like 1.4 or 1.5 with any of the regularity either. You'd think that Microsoft would invest a bit more development into keeping a franchise they paid $2.5 billion for relevant.

You have the only item in the game that nobody else does. Don't complain. :p
I'm so jelly!

1.9 is interesting, but not great. How can they call this the combat update without adding any new weapons? There are some good ones they could have done too like a javelin or crossbow.
I would have rather seen a constant stream of small updates. Like adding new blocks in the nether.
Plus I dislike how hard it is to get the elytra and some of the new enchants. It should have just been a rare drop on a new mob in the end in addition to the standard.

That'd be little to OP since you can farm off of the new Shulker mob.
But finding the End City shouldn't be too hard now should it?
