Item Sorter - Help Required

Hi,
I’m looking for a bit of advice on a sorter system that myself and SamColt are trying to build. With our current design the hopper that is used as the filter keeps losing its items and hence the system stops working. In some instances the items that should be filtered are passing straight over the filter hopper. When this happens the only way to fix it is to remove and replace the filter hopper. I’ve attached a few screenshots showing the configuration.
Does anybody have a reliable system that is working on MineReleam? If so could you post some information on your design or suggest improvements to this design?

Many Thanks

PeeJay

P.S. For the filter hopper I'm using re-named cobble as the filler.

I suggest you try to put the entire thing in one chunk and see if it works properly then.

Else, it might be a spigot bug. One bug I'm aware of is that when an inventory container is removed from the world, then there will be a hopper in the world that gets its tick "skipped," so it behaves oddly. The bug has been fixed, but minerealm's not running the patched version (albeit, for a reason).

I've had this problem many times before. Seems random as to when it starts and stops happening. Thankfully my sorter hasnt fouled up in the past 3 weeks.

We have a test setup for the sorter that is located in in one chunk and this seems to have the same faults as previously described.

I have this problem on my item sorter. I think I figured it out though. It has something to do with teleporting out of the chunk. I noticed that if I do a /home or /spawn while the items are sorting, they will start to skip over the intended hopper and I will have to dig and replace it. It is a very annoying thing.

Some pics of the redstone being used for my item sorter:

Maybe this will help, don't know.

Hi River,
Thanks for the pics. I notice that you have a gap of one block between each station - was this done to make the system more reliable? We have the stations next to each other.

Do you have other chests in the gaps so you can store more items?

Did this for two reason:

1) More reliability. Basically, since the redstone for each filter hopper is not actually connected, if one hopper fails, the rest will be okay. Since there is 192 items in my sorter, i figured this was probably a good idea because if they were connected and 1 hopper failed, the rest of that entire wall would fall down. Not good.

2) Redstone lighting. You can't see in those pics, but I am actually running a redstone signal down to the bottom chest where you get the items. Basically what this does is sends a signal to light up a redstone lamp when items are being put into that certain filter hopper. It's pretty cool. I need a space between each for that.

Y'know, I was just about to post a bug report about this.
In one of my farms, I have a few hopper lines, and some hoppers attached at the bottom of the lines (just like in a filter).
In some spots, the hoppers will work like they should (items flow down before they move across), and in some spots, the items go wherever they please. I've been checking the chunk boundaries, and the hoppers are within the same chunk.
