I was looking through my .minecraft folder and saw a folder called "logs". Thinking it was part of my chatlogging program, I clicked it, and found that it was actually the console log for Minecraft.

So, okay, whatever. Console logs. What's so interesting about that?

What's interesting is that that includes chat logs! If you still have your .minecraft folder from a time, you have logs from that time, even if you weren't using a chatlogging program. It doesn't include things like color, but still, it's pretty amazing. I went back to 2013 and found this:

(I did have to copy-paste it into WordPad; for some reason, Notepad doesn't detect the line breaks once you go far enough back. Not sure why.)
If I can figure out how to change my old-old hard drive back from RAW to Ext and NTFS (halp), I might well be able to go back to 2011 or earlier! (Not sure exactly how far it goes back.)

Anyway, I just figured that was pretty cool, being able to see all chat you've ever seen or done.

I made a program that searches through the logs for any given pattern. It's only a primitive terminal program and it only works with my computer, but if I ever get around to making it more than that, I'll share!

For example, every time someone gave me credits:

This is one thing I miss out on by using magic launcher, but eh I hate the default one so much. Dont feel like I'm missing out on much.

What's the benefit of using another launcher? I'm actually really curious.

I used to use the Magic Launcher to make mod-installation and handling easier, since it has a mod-loader-ish thing. Not sure if it does anything else.

Well I use magic launcher because not only is it easier to install the latest version of optifine but it isnt as much hassle logging into different accounts. If I want to use different accounts on the default launcher I have to put in all the log in info each time, but magic launcher allows you to select from a drop down list of all the accounts you've ever signed in with and just login quick.

That, and the launcher also has news tabs for minecraft so you can see anything thats going on with the game. Twitter feeds of jeb and dinnerbone, reddit, wiki and official mojang web page tabs. All very useful, much more so than the vanilla launcher.

Sounds like something I need to download now.
