Okay, so the transit tubes are fast and all, right? But what happens if an animal goes in, or you ride a boat or minecart inside? Does it work? Does it break? What happens? I haven't been able to test it myself due to time constraints but I was curious.

Hostile mobs may harm you if they are inside the tube, and you may be stopped by them. Passive mobs don't disturb you in absolutely any way. Neither of them are affected by the tubes (They don't change speed or travel through them). But about the boats and minecarts, that's something I can't answer, as I haven't seen it or tested it.

If you travel through them with Aussie lag you sometimes grind to a complete halt

All entitys such as mobs, minecarts and boats are not affected by the transit tube.
