Does anyone know how to make Minecraft work so 2 laptops can play on the local network? Offline since I will be out in non internet country :P

Would be easiest to be able to just run a lan cable to each other but if that isnt possible what would make it work? Any help be much appreciated.

If the computers are connected to the same network, they can play together using the "open to lan" function. Open up a single player world on one computer and type /publish. On the second computer under multilayer, there should now be an option to connect to the other computer.

Will that work offline though?

I guess ill have to try using my old router and see if that works. Be better if I didnt have to bring it and just be able to connect through a lan cable. Actually thinking about it now my Surface pro 2 doesnt have a LAN port...

Create a wireless hotspot (with password) on your S2P and connect to it wirelessly from the other machine. Bingo, network.

Otherwise buy a USB to Ethernet adapter for the S2P ... that will allow you to link them via ethernet cable like normal.

Surface pro 2 doesnt have the option to become a wireless hotspot. Well only if you install an app or program but I did find you could make a virtual network and connect like that.

Tested it and it works!

Website here says how to do it.

It just allowed me to network and not share the internet access on the device connected to my SP2.

Not through the Windows 8.1 interface, no ... but you can do it using netsh commands via command prompt. I did it at one point on my wife's S2P :)
