"Look Up"

I'm one of the grumpy old so-and-so's who can relate to this vid. I'm not big on social media, nor do I use my phone endlessly. I thought it was a really interesting watch because I have noticed the difference just in my lifetime - when I was catching the bus to and from high school back in the '90s, it was always a hubbub of laughter and chatter. Now those same buses full of schoolkids are hushed, with everyone either plugged into their iPod or playing on their phone.
What do you think?

Now a days if your kid has a bruise or a scrape you are blamed for child abuse, they already tried with me when my son was trying to learn how to walk and did a couple face plants had a bruise on his face, that being said he only gets one hour a day with his leap frog and one with the tv, at all other times hes outside ...or inside depending on the weather playing with his toys being imaginative.
I wish people could cut down the amount of time kids are on electronics, because if we do not they will end up worse than us

"Sell your PC for that ring"
Bahahaha, I don't think so...
The world certainly is a different place since I was younger. But our parents said the same of us.
Sure my 3 girls are techno junkies yet we find time to do TaeKwonDo twice a week. Heck I was a cub scout leader for 3 years along with the girls as cubs.
For me the biggest problem with the world right now is political correctness gone mad and kids in the knowledge that they won't even get a smack on the wrist for doing wrong. Whatever happened to the days when kids were scared of the police taking them away?

Darth, I think it's much more important to find the parents who are abusers than to avoid annoying and inconveniencing the ones who aren't.
Bu1l, let me say this once and once only: "political correctness" is merely avoiding racism, sexism, and other oppression in ways that are less than obvious to people who don't experience them. Like, seeing someone called "delusional" is upsetting to me, because OCD's intrusive thoughts are a form of delusions.
Since I don't want another huge flame war to erupt over this subject, I'd like to request that people who wish to discuss this with me further do so in private, via either PM or email.
On another subject, I'm pretty sure that being terrified that someone's going to come and punish you is very unhealthy, and not particularly effective. It certainly isn't very nice. That said, I'm fairly certain that there are plenty of kids who are afraid of police still, they just tend to live in poor neighborhoods and/or be whatever race the local police are prejudiced against.

You cant even yell at your kids anymore without being accused of verbal abuse, god forbid you wash their mouths out with soap or spank them, a slap on the wrist you are jailed.
They take the wrong kids, they look at the wrong people all the time, they have so many kids they do not have enough foster homes, and 5 year olds end up in group homes its more than an inconvenience now.
Parents are afraid to yell at their kids in fear they will be accused of verbal abuse, teachers cannot give kids time outs without being charged, police are afraid to take unruly kids due to public outcry the kids know it and that is why they act like that.
But this is about social media and how its making us not social not misbehaving kids. So back to the subject yes technology is making us more distant from each other . I remember just going on a walk with my friends and it was fun no cell phones needed, though sometimes we brought cameras to take pictures of the birds.

What a melodramatic video.
People say the same crap every generation about new technology coming out. "It's going to ruin these kids! Look! All they do is [insert appropriate verb and new emerging technology here]!"
As one of the commentators on that video said, this video is just emotional -snip-. People will watch it, agree with it and "Feel good", then move on with their day.
There's nothing wrong with technology, so long as you realize what is a healthy amount of usage time for it is. And I don't know about you, but I don't want to talk to anybody while I'm on a train. Those people are sketchy as hell.

Hitting your kids is harmful and makes behavior worse long-term. Since it's psychologically traumatic, it falls under the label of abuse.
Yelling doesn't work either, and is also harmful. Since it's psychologically traumatic (as I know from personal experience), it falls under the label of abuse.
To quote Vicki Hoefle, mother of six and the author of
Duct Tape Parenting, “Discipline implies setting limits and boundaries. But the way we do it is, ‘I’m going to punish you when you do something I don’t like.’ It’s a completely wasted moment.”

I've been offline for a bit since my internet being out and my pc being a jerk. Right now I'm using my father's dino. Anyways. My goodness I couldn't agree more Darth. America is turning into a nation of wusse. Let me explain into further detail. No dogeball. Not cuz of pain, but some bullcrap excuse they claim to be "singling out people." Children need to expreriance pain at an early age or they'll grow up to sue and moan over the littlest crap. I know this sounds hypocritical of me but I don't mind pysical pain. That's never been a problem. And people at my schoo0l tick the crap outta me whenever they start complaining over being pushed or pinched. And no touching ever hated that rule? Just recently my school banned hugging. As you'd guess that doesn't affect me but I made a joke out of this. There's peace signs printed all over my elementery claiming they believe in that. You know cover up bullcrap all school gives. My teachers are vulgar. I don't like it but they ain't doing harm. Just hypocritical and usually hippie signs mean love. Not "No touching!" Now you may respond with They don't want a law suit. Well no. There's this Andrew that used to go to my school who brought in an air soft and shot a teacher and didn't get in trouble. What he did leave for though was on his parents discision.

Is this the thread where us old codgers get to shake our wrinkly fists at kids these days? Saw the video and yeah, screen time is seriously out of control...when you have to tell your kids/spouse no facebook at the dinner table, there might be a problem. We limit my daughter to an hour or two at most every few days...the youngest won't be allowed to watch tv or use a device for a year or 2 more.
