The ol' times

Hello there,

Sometimes when I'm bored and derping around spawn I start thinking about the time I first played minerealm, back in 2011. I'm not sure if I remeber everything correct as I had a very long break. I would like to chat a bit about that time, maybe someone else can post his memories :)

The things I remember:

The direct spawn realms were not buyable and a complete messed up area of cobble huts. The spawn road was griefed everyday and the spawn building was a small stone-slab building with a water slide. The nether portal was destroyed every few days and the area around the portal in the nether itself was full of holes and death traps.

Auto shops were not invented yet, real players were standing behind a bar and the shops had opening times. I remember a huge shop beeing on the right hand side of the spawn and another one from texas_hitman (i believe).

To be able to buy a realm you had to place an amount of x blocks in it. I owned a realm near spawn with an eiffel tower on it. I'm not sure about the groups name but someone build a huge hall near it, I later sold the realm to them for 45k. Something with "A" in the name I believe.

Later the diamond prices dropped to 35rc/diamond because everyone was x-raying. Intelli developed a script which detected most of the xrayers, today it's known as "the big purge". I have to admit that I was banned too during that days. The ban appeals section was overflowing by appeals, partly from well known players.

That's it for now :)

I think we started at the same time. Within a few months, in any case. Spawn really was a terrible mess back then - IIRC there were a few people like CirJohn who did a lot to keep the death pits covered or filled in, but there's only so much you can do when you're getting a constant influx of noobs. I also remember Texas's shop at spawn. Don't think I ever bought anything, but it was a neat build and climbing up the walls provided a great view of the surrounding builds.

That must've been about the time (Old) Frogtown was getting started. I remember a short time after starting to get settled south of spawn, I ran into Frogglenn building the south road that I now try to help maintain. When I first saw him, he was tearing up one block type so he could later replace it with another - I thought he was griefing and asked panthers to ban him :P

Also, PVP was intense back then. Constant camping in the nether, frequent rule changes / arguments / ban requests related to camping. Even with the server's population and PVP activity both decreased, I'm still reluctant to set foot in the nether with anything valuable.

The couple things that I remember were the Admins:
Shampoo_lord
LM108
I can only remember those two.

I also remember that 700 blocks form spawn was public. O.o

I miss the old realms system, with how the more you built the more it expanded. It reminded me of the game Civilization...
