Where did our playerbase go?

I logged on the other day after a period of a lot of homework, and therefore no time to play MineRealm, and discovered that not only was the player level lower at that time, but that it had dropped dramatically in general. Not trying to cause a panic or anything, but what precisely happened? I've heard tales of users leaving because of various players' permabans, but I still don't understand how our playerbase dropped so fast--the server went from buzzing with constant activity to practically a ghost town at certain times. Does anyone know what exactly happened?

As far as I can tell, it's only been one or two weeks like this. That's not enough to ask "Where did our playerbase go?" Give it time. People might be waiting for the wipe, playing their PS4, etc.

I believe a major issue (atleast, why we don't have any noobs) is that we're still at 1.6.4 and outdated compared to how update the minecraft engine actually is, this causes both vets/normal players and noobs lose interest until minerealm is updated.

My friend told me that the PS4 is a major flop with their major overheating problem, he said it was the best microwave sony has made. (Ironically, both of us was hating the xbox one even though we're xbox fans, and were actually more interested in the PS4)

Also of note is that drops in users like this happen at least every couple months, and it never has any real serious effect on the server. There'll be a week or so of a bunch of people noticing it and talking about it like it's some kind of alarming new thing, then 2-6 weeks of a very small group of people flying into a panic and proclaiming that the death of the server is nigh. Then eventually numbers go back up and the whole thing is completely forgotten, ready for a fresh panic the next time.

It's generally concurrent with the start and end of the US school year, the large 'waves' of new game releases each spring and fall, and christmas.

Yes I have noticed that too. We have lost many friends and good people in a relatively short amount of time. The fact is that minerealm and mine-craft is getting a bit old in of itself. The thing that I am counting on is that when the wipe happens intelli will start advertising as he did before, but this time actualy inform the players how the server works through posts and videos. We need the players to already know a lot about miencraft itself but also how to get started on the server. Im thinking if intelli plays this out well in the next month or so we can get the server back to the status that it used to be. I still remember all of the spawn parties and when we got the server maxed out at 100+ on a regular basis.(I would like to see that a gain (= )

The process (IMO)
-Big player is banned for example Baiin. Bains friends N2Z kingmyarse kaneg and who else want to play with him, they start playing on a new server so they can all play, they start liking this server they spend more time there then here. They slowly forget minerealm.

I did this myself on another server I'd have 5 vortex members on just to chill, and this slowly separates people from the server.

Anyway to sum it up, to many big players are leaving and very few are coming.
How to resolve this? Let back some perma-ban players. That will not only bring more players, but more donations ECT. Some people have been banned 1-2 years maybe give them a new shot?

The impending 1.7 wipe has likely had a big impact. For some players (like myself) it has meant a lot of activity in removing existing builds to allow as much land to be wiped as possible. For others though, they will be keeping all their builds but would like new terrain on their undeveloped land, so they really have little to do until the wipe occurs.

Heck, Bu1ld0g is about as addicted as they come and he was bored yesterday :D

http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopi ... =0&t=14947 is a great example of where it went in terms of new players. One more rule to yell at someone for when they inadvertently break it
I've tried to get many different friends to come online and play on Minerealm and I get the same reactions from all of them. Too many rules, too strictly enforced. The cursing filter is usually a big turn off.

With that in mind, I play less because I can't convince any friends to stay on for longer than couple days.
"Survival" implies at least some element of anarchy that new people would expect, none of which exists here.
