Microtransactions will feature in Grand Theft Auto Online, Rockstar has confirmed.

In an update on the game’s official site, Rockstar states that in-game cash can be accumulated through activities such as robbing armoured cars or winning street races, but also purchased via the in-game store “if you’re the completely instant gratification type”.

“The game and its economy have been designed and balanced for the vast majority of players who will not buy extra cash,” said Rockstar.

“There is no in-game paywall and nothing that should disrupt the balance of the game. You don’t have to spend real money to attain the cars, guns, clothes, flash and style of a high-roller in Los Santos, but can if you wish to get them a little quicker.

“The economy is balanced differently from the single player economy, and cash earned in one cannot be taken over to the other. Most players will earn cash much faster Online than in Story Mode.”

GTA dollars earned or purchased may be spent on cars, clothes, guns, properties and more.

According to a Eurogamer source, the GTA dollar packs will have the following prices:

$100,000 Red Shark Cash Card - £1.99 (AU$3.41)
$200,000 Tiger Shark Cash Card - £3.49 (AU$5.99)
$500,000 Bull Shark Cash Card - £6.99 (AU$12.00)
$1,250,000 Great White Shark Cash Card - £13.49 (AU$23.15)

Rockstar has also detailed activities that will be available for free in the weeks following the launch of GTA Online, including a content creator “with tools to tailor and publish your own deathmatches and races”, over 300 new items of leisure wear, two new weapons, a Capture the Flag mode, and heists.

Grand Theft Auto Online launches on October 1 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

I hope GTA V gets a few tweaks in the coming months. There are some things I dont care for at all. My biggest gripe is that its easier than ever before to die, and armor is a joke and lasts maybe 3 hits. even for the best armor at $2,500. I appreciate the good storyline, decent array of weapons, amazing graphics for last gen, and the amount of different cars in the game as well. But if theres one thing that keeps me and my brother coming back to GTA games its the fact that you can raise as much hell as you want. That is until you die, which happens much faster in this game than any other GTA. What we did in IV to buy us some extra screw around time was wanted level/health cheats just to extend the experience a bit. But cheats in V are old school and they arent saved and a real pain overall. Now, I know what youre thinking oh cheater! hacks are for nubs. But it isnt like this is multiplayer theres not anything on the line, its just a screw around game. And its annoying when you cant do much screwing around before youre back at the hospital losing hunreds of thousands of dollars from your character's account.

Also I hate being killed in an explosion when my car lands on its roof no matter whats its condition. If you off road in the game, which is very fun, youre going to land on your roof after a while and youre going to explode without warning. Warnings were always a part of car driving in GTA, when your car starts flaming you get the hell out. But here its like youre done instantly, cause you landed on your roof. Same thing goes for flying a plane and you brush up against an obstacle and that piece of the plane being damaged somehow creates an explosion that kills you in the cabin as well as destroying the rest of the enormous airplane. You'd think if you crash your plane's wing into a building or something that it would come off and you would start spiraling to earth having the chance to jump out at least, but no. Youre dead instantly in an enormous fiery explosion if any part of your plane breaks off. Crashing front first into something and exploding makes sense, but being killed by having your wing broken off is a bit silly.

I know mostly minor and I'll be unpopular for saying it but this installment of GTA felt a bit meh. Im interested to give online a try but I honestly think the only way I'll the fun I want out of GTA V is by waiting to get it on the PC and modding the hell out of it.
