By blocking chat, trolls have the majority of their weapons removed, stupidity loses 90% of its contagious properties, and admins have much of their time freed up to focus on other, more pressing matters than policing chat, such as policing griefing, scamming players using pantomime and the hilariously large amounts of trust players automatically give staff, and teleporting behind players purely to scare them.
I wholeheartedly endorse this suggestion.
It's worth mentioning that all chat can be conducted via Skype, on a one-to-one/guild basis. This means trolls, if there are any, are contained. This wouldn't cause communication among players to deteriorate either, because designated players could act as ambassadors to other chat groups, negotiating trades without the hassle of spam and a flooded, often times chaotic, chat.
Any issues regarding offensive material are also corrected by the smaller groups, allowing group leaders of the chats to quickly and quietly deal with complications as they arise.
A chat bot account for the group can also be set up, much the way Server is. It can periodically announce the rules of each chat into it, making sure things aren't just manageable, they're actually more efficient and controlled than ever before.
I wholeheartedly support this idea.
Godspeed Techno, and with Kerovon to light the way, surely this magnificent idea will prosper.
