Ok, so my computer is always lagging in the nether so I got optfine. I deleted META-INF, copied the files, and it didn't work. I got another version, did the same thing, it didn't work. What keeps happening is when I load a single-player world, or try to connect to Minerealm, it just crashes. I even got a .jar from another player who's optifine is working perfectly, and it still did the same thing. Any suggestions?

1. Download MagicLauncher.
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/939 ... ions-news/
This is now the icon you will use to start Minecraft.
2. Download the optifine zip.
http://adf.ly/404181/optifined.net/adlo ... D_U_B4.zip
3. Drag the zip to your desktop or to your My Documents folder.
4. Open MagicLauncher. Click Setup next to the login button.
5. Click add and select the optifine.zip from your desktop or your My Documents.
6. Now play Minecraft and mess with your video settings.

Step 1. Delete minecraft.jar file from bin.
Step 2. Force Update minecraft.
Step 3. Close minecraft.
Step 4. Open minecraft.jar in winrar or some other variant. Delete Meta-inf
Step 5. Download latest version of mod loader.
Step 6. Open Mod loader file in winrar and copy content into minecraft.jar.
Step 7. Download latest version of Optifine.
Step 8. Open Optifine in winrar and copy content into minecraft.jar.
Step 9. Close all winrar windows.
Step 10. Open minecraft.
Step 11. Go on to game.minerealm.com
Step 12. Enjoy!
Although I am not sure if you need mod loader, if so ignore steps 5 & 6.

Joseph's method with magic launcher is easiest. You don't have to change any files.
Lardimus' method is the manual installation which you seem to be struggling with. You do not need a mod loader or magic launcher for this.
I would suggest the magic launcher method, it's much easier.

I'm beginning to think something is just seriously wrong with my computer, because I've already tried the magic loader thing (I forgot to mention that) and it didn't work TT. I guess I'll try mod loader. I'll post again if I still have problems, but I'm pretty sure mod loader is just an easier way to edit the .jar, and since someone else has already given me a .jar that worked for them and it didn't work for me, I don't think that is the problem. If someone could pm me another .jar that works for them with only optifine that might fdo the trick since the other one I got had other mods too. Oh well. Thanks :/.

I believe you are on Windows, but here is a method for Mac. Before you do this, you must have both the newest version of Optifine (in a .zip file) and an application called 'The Unarchiver'.
1. Locate Library (Shift Command G, then enter ~/Library).
2. Find the 'minecraft' file (usually Application Support --> minecraft)
3. Go to 'bin' and open the 'minecraft.jar' file with 'The Unarchiver'. This will create another 'minecraft' folder, with all the .class files and everything else.
4. Open Optifine.zip, this will make it into a file with some .class things inside.
5. Drag these .class files into the 'minecraft' folder, and when prompted, click 'replace' for duplicate files.
6. Delete for rename your minecraft.jar file.
7. Rename your minecraft file to 'minecraft.jar'
