Thanks for your replies, but it was actually a driver problem.
I thought that they wouldn't be releasing anymore drivers for the graphics card, but I was wrong.
Thx guys.

Ok, need help again :P, it stuffed up again.
I'll connect it to an external monitor and see what happens.

No surprised really ... driver problems tend to cause either consistent problems that are present from the moment that the drivers load, or in the case of a memory leak or similar will work fine right up to the moment that they crash in a blaze of glory. The symptoms you described aren't really typical of a driver issue.

Let us know what happens with the external monitor ;)

This is caused by a fracture in one of the ball solder joints of one of the BGA chips on the motherboard (probably the GPU). The fracture is caused by thermal-mechanical stess (the chip expands/contracts relative to the motherboard stressing the BGA solder joints). The heating up and cooling down of the hardware caused the problem. Unfortunately, once the damage has been done the only way to fix it is to re-flow the solder in the BGA (the whole chip). I would pull the laptop motherboard and find someone in the area who is familiar with this kind of repair. The alternatives are to replace the motherboard or ship it to a company that can do that for you.

^ that's what my post on the previous page addresses. Given that the laptop is running Vista (ie predates Windows 7 and is therefore at least 3 years old) it's probably not going to be economical to repair commercially. Hence my suggestion of reflowing the solder by oven baking the GPU.

AFAIK the AMD Mobility HD 3650 is a discrete graphics card, not just a GPU chip on the main motherboard. Something like this.

Hmm, I don't think my mum would approve of putting the graphics card in the oven (or taking it out of the computer in the first place) :P, anyway in the mean time I'll take it to a computer repairer.

UPDATE
So, I took the laptop to a computer repairer and it needs the solder joint to be reflowed,
Bad news is its gonna cost upwards of 300 shiny boons :P, at least my family has possession insurance that SHOULD cover the repair cost.
Hm, I think playing dayz on my laptop wasn't a great idea :P
Anyway, to get on to minerealm I'll have to go to my local libary :(
