[REJECTED] [Suggestion] Public Land Portals

Fed up of questions from the newbies like, "Where can I build" or "Where can I find public land"?

Well, my idea is to have a nether portal somewhere very close to spawn which will take you to a seperate part of the nether, lets call this the "lobby" for instance. In this "lobby" will be some portals which are connected to random portals out in public land. This would mean someone (a newbie) can pop into the "lobby" and straight back out into the public land away from spawn city.

We would have to inforce a rule which would be no PvP in the "lobby".

The "lobby" would be totally enclosed and covered in 3 or 4 of layers of Obsidian so it is protected from intruders and explosions.

All in all, this would be easy to implement and build and I struggle to find any downsides to this idea.

Not going to happen. Newbies just need to learn to walk more. If they can't deal with the walk they can find another server they can be lazy on.

It's kind've a right of passage here to take the time and find your own patch of dirt. A place you can call home. Have you ever seen what a large amount of new players can do to an area in a short time? It gets wrecked quickly. Besides they would just complain later about a lack of trees or other resources at said public lands.

I'm all for helping out those that help themselves. Heck we feed all the new players as it is. They need to show some type of aptitude though.

Well, they would still ask where public land is... then you would tell them to take the portal to one of the areas... and then they would ask where the portal is (even though it would be right in front of them)... then they would go in... and then ask again where public land is.. and "why are people killing me?" etc etc.

I mean, they have problems understanding "Pick a random direction and walk"... I think the nether would confuse the hell out of them.

I also think that people like them to walk through spawn city so they can look at the buildings and such.

Tell newbies the real way to get there. Many people just don't realize this:

Use the A, W, D, and SPACEBAR keys in combination with the mouse.

Not legit, and the new tutorial garden may help with where to go.

I think he means 'not vanilla'.

There is no need for this. If people would just explain to the new players where to go, and maybe guide them occasionally, they tend to do rather well.

Did that earlier. Took a few minutes, and they were respectful, and there was no usual ranting about finding land. It's worth doing that, and honestly, a bit of kindness makes newer players more friendly in the long term.

As for it being non-vanilla it is. It's a portal that sends you a few hundred to a thousand blocks from spawn. How is that vanilla at all?

Well, how do you suppose a portal from spawn will go to one point of public land? The land in question will have to be fresh, and not have anyone buy the realm for it's 'spawn realm-alike' properties.
