Map API - Suggestions Here!

Hey everyone,
As some of you may be aware, we're able to override the default Minecraft map system, and well, could ultimately use it for anything we wanted.
Ex:
What I'm looking for is suggestions for how you would like to see it used.
Having animations, standard text, etc, IS possible.
For example, we could have a map that contains a tutorial for new players.
So yea, discuss - if you feel that maps should be left as-is, make sure you state that also

Maybe some maps should have directions to other spawn points, as they only spawn at the main one now.

I don't like the idea of using them for tutorials--we already have very extensive tutorials at/near the spawn point. In general though, I'd be very open to the possibility of changing them, since we already have a superior map on the website.

If at all possible, can we get a map of the subway? Although I think people have one off the game, for example on a paint document, but I think it would be nice to have an ingame map somehow...?

i like this idea, and i'm happy to run throughout the entire system to map it initially, and be in charge of updating it when required

I have an idea, I've thought about it for a while and I believe the entire server, newbies too, will extremely benefit from it. I really think this should be a poll opition, it's a great idea: On the map, there would be a pointer that could lead the player holding it to the closest diamond ore!
lol jk
Actually, being serious, I think it should show off player pixel art since we're so in to it. If not that, a tutorial would be good.

I don't think that rules etc. are such a good idea, since a Map requires redstone, iron and Sugar Cane, not that hard to get (except perhaps for the last one depending on where you are) but a new guy will not have enough resources on them to craft that instantly.
Maybe a kind of newspaper would be nice, a short summary of what is going on, planed events etc.
Another idea I would really like would be replace the map with a "realm map", don't know if that is possible but perhaps make the map show which realms around you (perhaps 5x5 or 11x11 realms) are owned and which ones are public, would make planning large structures and just searching for nice land much easier.
But the subway map would be very nice too, if every station etc. is included and it is kept up to date.

This a million times yes.
A tutorial makes sense at first...although it would require giving away free maps to people just joining the server. Would it be possible to spawn one within their inventory on first login? Otherwise by the time a player scrapes together enough resources to make a map (sugarcane, iron redstone) a tutorial is largely superfluous.

This would be a really cool idea, with a weekly update that loads with a server restart.
