Suggestion: New Command

So Lineant and I had an idea for a new command for the server, and i imagine it wouldn't take much coding or cpu power, but i'm no expert there.
The idea was that we could have a command /Location <name> that would give the player the location of another player within the world, and would display it as:

-------------------------------------------------------------
KingSpartacus is at X: -250 Y: 65 Z: -250
--------------------------------------------------------------

Upon response of several members, i figure it would be handy to have a command: /hide that would enable you to stop players finding your location so they can only find you when you want them to. for instance when you are trying to meet up with them, or you want them to get to you so you can show them something. using /hide again would then un-hide you from the /location command

Suggested changes:

--Only make it usable in the overworld (so you can't use it to stalk and kill players in the Nether)

--If it would reduce the CPU power needed, perhaps make it list the location of the player's realm (so both coordinates end in either 25 or 75, as when using the /realm command). That way, it has to report coordinates from a 200 x 200 grid, rather than a 10,000 x 10,000 one. [if this wouldn't matter in terms of the server resources required, then disregard this suggestion]

Hrmm don't know, on one hand it would be useful to find someone on the other hand it could be easily exploited.
Even if we disable that function in the Nether ( Not showing the position of players that are in the Nether) it could still be used to save taktalk players by constantly checking their position and deducing which portal to the nether they might have taken to then kill them there.

Even if you can't use the command while being in the Nether 2 players one inside and one outside of the Nether could still do the same.

Also some more (in)famous players, mods or admins might not like it, when their realms are getting found.

So all in all, nice idea and perhaps useful, but it would lead to too much drama, because person A buys all public realms around Person Bs "hidden" mansion etc. etc.

This seems far too exploitable to me. Even if it returns a large area, it would be easy enough to search for signs of a player's presence. Sure, pvp is easy enough to avoid, but there's very little you can do about an enemy buying a realm near yours, particularly if they make an effort to actually USE it a bit. And anyways, what good would this actually DO??? If you want to find someone, just ask for their coords. If they're not willing to tell you, then that's too bad for you.

This. I'm sorry, it does sound like a good idea, but it really isn't necessary. Someone could easily /compass and send their exact co-ords to you, or use f3 for the same purpose. And this also in no way helps those who have a bit of trouble with co-ords.

So it's a disagree from me, personally. Sorry.

Maybe you could do /player location <insertnameofuser>
Which sends out a request. The receiving player can then type /yes to accept the request.

We have this. It's /msg <playername> Where are you!??
