[FORUM SUGGESTION] Forum Rules/Etiquette Topic

Well, I have been looking around the forums, just checking out double posts and overly bumped topics and thinking, "We need a rule thread". That is exactly what this suggestion is about.

I haven't been able to find a rule thread for Minerealm forums and I think having one would be great for the site.

Rule Section:

Basically, this would be either in the Site Discussion section or the Announcements section. It would be a stickied post in one of those two sections and always on the forum Board Index. This would help keep people from making annoying double posts and bumping threads every thirty seconds. The rule thread would also include information about rules such as proper titles on trading (Great Example), suggestions ( [FORUM SUGGESTION] , [SERVER SUGGESTION] , Etc.), bugs ( [CRITICAL] , [ANNOYING] , [BEARABLE] , Etc.), picture posting, flaming, swearing, etc.

Etiquette Section:

This section would be used for information about proper forum etiquette and manners (Believe it or not, many people have limited knowledge in this area). Ex. (Making posts that address one player in particular is frowned upon and should be kept in a PM.) OR (If an argument erupts or has gone on too long, please move it to a PM.) OR (Try to keep posts relevant to the topic.)

Many people stray too far from what is accepted and what is not. I have seen numerous double posts, unneeded bumps and I have even seen a few inappropriate words floating around the forum.

I think that this kind of thing has gone on long enough and should be stopped right now.

Thank you for your consideration.

~Bone

Note: The Rule Section and Etiquette Section are in the same thread and should not be confused with two different forum sections.

So, lets say someone comes in here with no tact or common sense and no sense of decorum, and you expect them to read a guide on how to not be a total tool on the forum? It seems to me that the only people who will read such a rule post would be people who already know the material covered and don't need a refresher.

What we really need is a totally psycho forum mod who loves banning people.

*laughs maniacally* making a request now!
JK
*edit* sorry bone, I do agree with cerevox, this is just too strict. It would be nice if people do this but I don't think it will happen.

Actually, I think most players that join the forum would read a post like this. Any idiot who thinks they are so cool that they post ponies and troll faces all over the forum or doesn't comply with the rules should be given a warning, and if they do it again, banned on the spot, whether it is a temp. ban or a permaban.

And yes, we do need a psycho forum mod who loves banning people.

Btw, johnnklein:

What? Did you read all the rules, announcements and other sticked posts before you made a single post or played on the server? Of course not. No one does. But that is what you are suggesting everyone do. It is an unrealistic goal and while I doubt such a rule post would hurt, I don't think it will help either.

Anyone who has more than 3 posts should be able to figure out what the forum rules are and act accordingly.

I read every sticky regarding different sections of the forum before I made a post and read all the server rules before I played the server. Also, I have seen many players with more than 3 posts double posting and bumping without reason and even swearing/posting inappropriate language a few times.

Then you are a unique individual. And double posting could be by accident, it is not a terrible crime, just very annoying. Swearing on the forums though should net you a ban. That is not a lack of knowledge of the rules though, those individuals are simply disregarding the rules. Just like they would disregard one more set of rules.

Intelli, can you review this?

Despite what cerevox says, I think this is suggestion would be a great resource for the community.

I see the real point of this thread, using the letter of law to ban forum users in the pursuit and enforcement of petty prejudices.
This potential represents an attack on civil liberties and the freedom of expression.
There's enough psycho's out there in the real world, we do not need any patrolling the forums banning people on a whim.
I'm highly suspicious of the true intentions behind this thread, imposing more rules on the forums could have a negative impact on the minerealm community, espicially if those wield power are biased in their opinions.
One should be be more tolerant, minecraft is afterall a game in which allows freedom to be creative.
I agreed with cerevox and johnklein on this that there are elements of your proposals that are too strict and could be abused to discriminate against minorities on minerealm.

1. I was joking when I said that we need a psycho forum mod.

2. The point of the thread was to get a rule thread put on the forum, not for trying to ban forum users.

3. How can rules be a negative impact? They create order and help to keep the community in order.

4.

We DO NOT need these kinds of insulting words on a supposedly PG server and forum.

5. All I did was simply post a suggestion with a few examples. I didn't say that they should be included in the thread, I just listed them as examples.

I just posted this suggestion because I thought it would be good for the forum to have a set of rules before you go around swearing, flaming, trolling, double posting, bumping unnecessarily, etc.

But apparently, I was wrong. Now, I doubt this will get approved, so just stop posting here.
