[SUGGESTION] Remove block logs from private realms

Hey minerealm,

During the anniversary event we had the chance to see how the server runs when nobody is able to break blocks. Interestingly there were almost 100 people online and the lag bar was almost completely green. My guess is that this is due to the fact the the server doesn't have to log every block that is broken.

In minerealm a good amount of the blocks being broken happens in private realms. If an option like '/blocklogs' was added to private realms (with default being off) this would enable owners of private realms to choose whether they want to have block logs or not.

A lot of the time people either have their realm to theirself or share it with people they trust. In these cases you don't really need block logs as nobody can break blocks except for you and trusted people anyway.

The reason you might want block logs on in a private is for renting out houses/appartments to people who might have bad intentions. This is why realm owners should have the choice to switch it on if they think it's necessary.

Most of the time though, block logs in private realms are not necessary and I believe it would greatly reduce the lag if most private realms would have block logs switched off.

I agree, seems a good suggestion. But I don't know if it would fix the lagg, it could improve it.

Also I've been on the holiday and the lagg was minimum so I think your right. What I'm wondering if the logs is the problem. Servers are quite complicated and I don't know half of it but breaking blocks and making logs of it isn't the only thing happening. I think there is more than just the logs what causes lagg...

good idea, i think alot of people who have realms with no-one living there could then turn it off, meaning server doesnt need to log as many blocks as there are alot of private realms. as for myself i was running a little town where people could live, it got griefed multiple times thank god for block logs. but now i have just one realm which i dont need the block logs for so i could easily turn it off to relieve the server just a tiny little bit

It will be too easy for griefers to join realms and grief them to hell.. Then the mods won't be able to reroll it.

griefers cant just join a realm they have to be added my realm owner, and if the owner believes they might grief then all the owner has to do is turn block logs back on.

Once you turn block log off, it stops logging the blocks. Simply turning it on allows it to start logging the blocks. And an admin or moderator doesn't need block log to roll someone back. Your logic is flawed.

logic is not flawed! wen block log would be off it doesnt log every block thats destroyed in a realm or who destroyed it. but when block log would be reactivated it will log the blocks and who places/destroys them

The lack of lag was due to everyone being in one small area. The primary cause of lag is 100 players being spread around the map. Each player has a view distance of 6 chunks. (96 blocks)

96 x 96 x 128 = 1,179,648 of block data that needs to be sent to each player, minimum. More players spread out = more unique data that needs to be loaded from the server.

At any rate, removing block logs for in private realms won't reduce lag. Additionally, removing the logs would prevent rollbacks in private realms, and also make it so you could continuously place / remove blocks in the same location and gain credits, as there would be nothing to check if you've already gained credits for that spot.

Hahaha I love his signiture!

Also, block logs are needed very much, without them Minerealm would explode!!! Okay more like get griefed and not rolled back and things wouldn't sinc.
