Yesterday or the day before someone posted a suggestion of a maze that they would have to go through before they can play the actual game. I think my suggestion is better.

I think that you should have to join the forums to play. You should spawn in a 5x5 Room with one sign in it. The sign would say:
Welcome to Minerealm. Please Join our Forum to Play. http://WWW.Minerealm.com

When they join the forum they have to read the rules. So the scroll bar has to reach the bottom. Then they can hit accept. Then when they log in again they will spawn in a different spot.

This way they will have no reason to say "Hey, i didn't know the rules."
Just my thoughts. It might help.

I don't know how much coding this would involve. If it is alot then it may not be worth it to use it.

Sounds a little like white listing...

Very bad idea. Number of new people joining the server would drop drastically.

Though eventually all new players would halt. Maybe we could have a guest system where you join and walk around, but to build, purchase, or make anything you need to register.

The server would eventually die out. I know there are a lot of idiots who join the server but somewhere between those people there are the good players who you want to keep in the server.

I know that if I'd of had to register at a forum to join the server I would not have joined. I don't necessarily want to imply that I'm a fantistic player and addition to minerealm but I hope you get my pioint. By making people register at the forums you're also discouraging the good players from joining the server.

People on the internet have a ridiculously short attention span and very little patience and registering on a forum is kind of stretching those to a point where almost nobody will do it.

I didn't register until I had been on the server for a few weeks. Why? Because I wanted to check out the server, it's staff, rules, and population before I went through the trouble of creating yet another forum account for a place I might not even want to be around.

The maze idea is better. Let them on the server but make them answer a few questions and learn a little about it before they can jump in.

As already mentioned, this sounds like a white list. The server is public. That means there are no prerequisites to join. Requiring someone to create a forum account would most definitely be a prereq. Therefore, no.

To me, it seems a little bit worse than whitelisting. People would seemingly be allowed to join the server without any application process but be restricted to a small little room until they register on the forum (i.e. apply to be "whitelisted"); most whitelist servers are at least straightforward in saying that you need to apply before being allowed to join. So this proposal is like a more deceptive version of whitelisting.

Its unfair to have to register because for all they know the server is crap(not saying it is). We'd be registered to something we don't want.
