Sandstone takes 4 sand to create, I think it should count as +4 (and -4 when removed) to realms.

But sand counts as 0, so...

Yeah. Plus if we were giving extra value to blocks, might as well make diamond +100 and smoothstone +2 or something? :\
I say keep it all at +1.

Why is sand zero? That sucks for my pyramid...

Make sand 1 at least...

Sand and gravel are 0 because you can naturally destroy sand and gravel with dropping them on a torch. So when they are destroyed it is destroyed by the torch not you, therefore the block count does not go down. It has been set to 0 to stop people from using this exploit.

Sandstone can't be destroyed in this manner, thus can't be exploited, and shouldn't be subjected to the same lesser-value treatment as its cousin. Sandstone is greater than the sum of its parts!

Of course, wooden planks would then have to be worth 1/4th if you are counting it that way, because each log produces 4 planks. And furnaces would be worth 8 blocks, so there would be massive furnace spam everywhere.
I think this idea is much too complex, and that the current method works well. Also, more complexity=more work for the server = more lag.

Some blocks are 0 because of exploits. All the rest are 1 because they take up the same area, which is what the leveling system is based upon: how much area of the realm is occupied by placed blocks.

So then shouldn't a fence be 1.5 blocks since it occupies 1.5 blocks of height?

What about half steps and .5 of a block? Do things like torches add a .1 to the block count? Its not about space either, its an arbitrary system decided on by fiat of the red-name people. Which i am cool with, i just think we should be upfront about it.
