Master Edit:

It is no longer a problem, thanks for your help everyone!

Today in the morning I launched minecraft and it asked me if I wanted to upgrade.
I made the mistake of upgrading without backing up my jar file, and now I can't play
online...

Oh and I'm on a mac, if that matters.
Could someone please help me, I've been searching for a copy of the 1.7.3 jar but
I can't find any clean copies without hacks/ cracks/ mods.
Could someone please point me to a legitimate source, or email me a copy of their
1.7.3 jar file. I would be eternally grateful!

I created a temporary email for today, it is [email protected]

Thanks..

EDIT:
So someone was king enough to send me the jar file,
I tried replacing it with the 1.8 jar file, but it didn't work.
Could be because the person who sent it to me was
on a windows PC not a Mac. So someone with a Mac
could you please send me a copy of your 1.7.3 jar file?

Thanks but it didn't work, probably because it was a copy of a jar file from a windows computer not a mac. I still need a Mac jar file plz someone

You are not allowed to share Minecraft.jar files. It is against the terms and conditions.

All .jar files are the same on any operating system. If you have the 1.7.3 jar on a Windows machine and you replace the 1.8 jar on the Mac with it, it should work fine.

You don't just need the minecraft.jar file. Many things outside of that file changed. Unless you get a full copy of the bin folder you're boned.

No... that's not how it works. At least not in previous versions.

The thing is, I found an index with launchers, but you want the actual /bin folder. I was told you can do the force update option, and it might revert back to 1_7_3

Wow, this is the most failed update ever.

I'm stuck with 1.8 on my mac, and I can't downgrade. Not even with options-> force update.
None of the jar files/ bin folders I found or was given make the game work for me.
I can't even start a new world in singleplayer, it just goes to a black screen after loading
chunks.

So I'm disappointed with Mojang for not anticipating problems and giving us an easy way
to rollback to the previous version.

For now I'm forced to play minecraft on my old pc because it has 1.7.3, and its laggy like crazy.
