Suggestion: official list of allowed mods

Hey all,

Since I only get contradicting info on this, wouldn't it be a good idea to have an official, Intelli-approved list of client-side mods that we are allowed to use?

For instance, yesterday I got kicked for using a chat macro, even though I'm far from the only one to use this, I've seen em used by both players and mods/admins.
I can understand that this could be abused, but I only use it to give new players the basic realm info, and to promote my free starter pack, and occasionally the 'selling slimes' sentence. I'm more then willing to drop the selling and starter pack lines if that's an issue, but I really don't see why it's bad to be able to quickly inform new players. But that's just my thoughts.

Another is the mini-map, the Book of Rules says it's allowed, but a while ago an admin said ingame that it wasn't?

Also, perhaps this topic could be used to suggest other mods that could be approved (use your common sense, people)?

So far, what I've heard that is allowed is the following:
  • non-transparent texture packs
  • Improved Chat (includes chat hotkeys)
  • Convenient Inventory
  • Mini-map
But as I said before, ingame it has been said that minimap and chat might not be allowed?

PS Intelli, I know I send you a PM about the chat already, I don't mean to pressure you, shortly after I send it I just thought that a topic like this might be a better idea :)

Thank you for your time!

Banning chat hotkey mods is a little silly as most multimedia keyboards can do this sort of thing without a mod. Not sure mini-maps are such a big deal unless they do mob/player locations.

And yes, all of the client mods on that list are allowed.

This is just common sense IMO.

I suspect OP wasn't kicked for using chat mods, rather kicked for spamming.

Here is what I said:

If you're new and want a free starter kit, send me a PM (/msg cgpirre <message>)
The kit contains: 1 crafting table, 2 chests, 5 logs, 4 iron, 16 torches and 1 stew

Nothing more, just regular chat. Kick reason: macro.

He's right, the list of permitted mods needs to be posted on a sticky on the forums and the FAQ on the wiki.

In general, any mod that would give a player an advantage over others that he couldn't get without a mod is banned.

All mods are discouraged.
We strongly recommend playing with a vanilla client.

This means we can still use Improved Chat and Zan's Minimap, right? If they are just discouraged, they aren't bannable, right?
