Bug - Minecart Chests

Minecart chest issue
-------------------------------
On 8/8/11 in the early afternoon, a group of friends and I had our nearly-full supply of iron and gold in a chest which was put into a Minecraft. All that we did was put a couple carts on a looped track, and they ran into each other sometimes. However, the chests simply vanished without any griefers or anyone with privs getting into them. No blocks or ingots remained.

I'm not asking for a resupply of items, just a possible fix on the issue. Thanks.

Vehicles remove themselves after 5 minutes to prevent the spamming of them.
I think that is what happened here.

Heh, well, if that is the case, then maybe a resupply is what could fix this because it isn't blatantly aware to those who read spawn signs read all /helps and etcetera. Sorry if I'm sounding greedy, but that was a couple weeks worth of mining, and there are no obvious warning, we were just trying to have fun and watch. But really, thx for reading and please make the "spam-protection" blatant. Thanks.

Why would you put gold and iron into minecarts and run them into each other for fun? Couldn't dirt and cobble sufficed?

Sounds like a default 1.7 bug.
Ask Notch about this.
