Mushroom Auto Farming

I got around to making my Mushroom auto farm, only to find that water does not wash away mushrooms; and so my suggestion is to enable water to destroy mushrooms.

I also saw that this suggestion to do the same with wheat got approved.
PestoPosta wrote:Hey, I know, I know I should have read the wiki first, but I spent much of last night making my auto farm,
only to come on in the morning to a nice full field of wheat, and as I flipped the switch and let the water go I wait 10 seconds or so, and what to my surprise do I find the wheat is still there and stopping the water. So with much grumbling I spoke to a few people while playing and they suggested I grumble here.

So I am. :|
Look I know why it is turned off anti-grieffing and all, but you know what? I want my bloody auto farm. XD
So if there is a way this can be arranged that would be amazing, like say having the water destroy be an
on/off for realms of something. Please I am begging you on behalf of all the lazy people. :)

My early morning attempt at humor aside, please it would be much appreciated if there were a way to make this work. :D

So I hope that this change will be approved as the wheat suggestion was approved.

Thanks

I agree here, food is food. Its a Survival Server, we survive and thrive by eating all sorts of foods. For some players, like me, dying isn't necessarily an option. Mushroom Stew gives a player a significant amount of hearts back per bowl.

A faster collection system, means more food faster, making a supply of mushroom stew for a player. (Some people choose mushroom stew as a food preference, maybe they just like eating SHROOMS.)

You could try my plan, haven't build it yet, but some minor tests prove it should work.
Use pistons to make a roof you can open and close. Open it when the shrooms have grown, whack one, and all the ones 'connected' to the one you removed will pop out of the ground is the light level is too high.

I've found that using sticky pistons to raise/lower the floor of a mushroom farm is very effective.

You keep the floor "up" when you want mushrooms to grow. By making a low ceiling you can also prevent mob spawns while the floor is in the "up" position.

To harvest you put the floor in the "down" position. When the floor drops the mushrooms are released. Adding water to transport the mushrooms is easily accomplished. As an added benefit, you can leave gaps that aren't harvested to avoid the hassle of replanting.

Edit: Yes, I realize I necro'd this thread.

Pistons, especially sticky pistons, are expensive. That, and it's easier to set up a water-based system than a piston one.

Yah, but I have plenty of slime, oodles of redstone, spare time, and I like a challenge. In either case, my farm is automated now, whereas water-based farms are not.

I bought some redstone and iron, made a half a stack of pistons, and made it so as soon as the mushrooms grow all you have to do is press a button twice which pushes the mushrooms into a water delivery stream. (There are a few spots where the mushrooms stay to prevent replanting)
