Currently if a player is banned when a player tries to log in they get a login error message "you are banned appeal on forum"

If a player breaks the rules Maliciously or if they break the rules without intent;
"A poor person steals food to feed his family or a rich person steals to buy drugs"
"stealing an apple for food or a Million bars of gold"
etc.

Using the above I would suggest the rich person equates to a certain type of new player
A poor person might equate to someone who has played on the server for a while

Treating them the same is flawed.

How is banning flawed? You break the rules you get banned.

You steal a block you get banned.
You loot a block you get banned.

It doesn't matter if you've been here since the beginning of MR like myself and others or if you just joined today. I don't see how that is flawed?

Complaining they steal food to eat is just a excuse, there is a free melon farm at spawn.

Yes, I agree. Let's make everything unequal and give certain people leniency and other people get the hammer without question. Because treating everyone equal is much worse than giving certain people an advantage due to their play time.
hurdurhurhur

Edit:
"Using the above I would suggest the rich person equates to a certain type of new player

If you've been on the server for a while, you're not the one who's stealing to feed his family, you're the rich snob stealing to break the rules.

it is flawed because

someone who played on the server for a while deserves to be told why they were banned so they can defend themselves

the new person has nothing to loose

Actually that makes that logic completely flawed, because if they have been on the server for awhile they should know the rules well enough to not break them.

If they want to know why they were banned they can appeal. It's not like we don't tell you why you got banned. From experience doing appeals once you tell them what they did most know exactly where and what they took. Or they like to play hard ball and demand evidence.

if it was 100% certain they broke the rules why bother with appeal

Because it gives them a chance to apologize, make amends and return to the server. Are you saying all bans should be perma?

Why don't you asked the players who get banned that?

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume it's because they possibly feel sorry/ashamed for what they have done and wish they could get another chance to play on the server.

There is absolutely no reason for this suggestion. You know why?

1. The system works fine as it is. This is key. There is nothing wrong with the system that needs to be patched up.
2. Your logic here seems to be that new players should be banned immediately, while vets and the like should get a chance to "explain themselves". You know the issue with this? It's pointless. They already get a chance to explain their actions in their ban appeals, and guess what? No more than 1 in 50 people or less are mistakenly banned at any point, and that's only if you include people who appeal. I'd estimate that fewer than 200-300 people in the entire history of the server have ever been mistakenly banned due to staff actually thinking they did something (not including typing mistakes), and, considering that there are almost 100K in the ban list, that's certainly something, not to mention the fact that any player can appeal and, if they are truly innocent, they will be immediately be unbanned.

TL;DR: The system works fine the way it is, and this is a bad suggestion and you should feel bad.
